Let me share a few spots worth visiting if you, like me, have the pleasure to walk the streets of Stockholm. First of all watch the video to see what we got up to during one day of our stay and get the full visual experience. Then scroll down and find our tips for eateries and things to get up to in the city. Also! Check out Vegomagasinet’s Stockholm food guide for more tips.

As our visit was short this time this is also a short guide but I have included some old favourites from previous visits to flesh it out a little more for you. Really you could just walk around the city for days though and just enjoy the scenery. As you might know Stockholm is built on islands and our favourite one to enjoy is Södermalm with its many boutiques and eateries, especially the SoFo area is a very good perusing spot but we also really like the streets around Mariatorget. Other than that Gamla Stan is a must visit. You can also grab a ferry using your public transport ticket or simply contactless payment card to reach the smaller islands of Skeppsholmen and Djurgården where many of the museums and attractions are located.

Finally a little note on when to visit – spring, summer and early autumn are the best times to enjoy Sweden and Stockholm is no different. Summer is the most busy of course with many tourists visiting the Swedish capital. And for those of you looking for somewhere to stay I had a lovely stay at Miss Clara a few years back and the next time I visit I think I will book fun looking NOFO Hotel.

Drop Coffee – Coffee roasters with a cosy spot close to Mariatorget in Södermalm.

Johan och Nyström – Another coffe roastery with a three spots dotted around Stockholm.

Breakfast and Lunch:

Mahalo – Popular vegan spot with smoothies and bowls, baked oats, lunch bowls like their appreciated noodle salad called “knivsöder” and raw fika. You can find them in Vasastan and on Södermalm.

Greasy Spoon – A breakfast and brunch spot with a nod to the UK, try their vegan full English or the pancakes. Not fully vegan spot but with good options. Find them in four locations around Stockholm.

Café A la Lo – Vegan café a little off the beaten tourist path with a great looking breakfast menu, pastries and salad and soup for lunch. Try their own kombucha!

Pom och Flora – An Instagram famous breakfast location with good vegan options that change seasonally. Visit one of their three locations for fresh bowls, porridge and open faced sandwiches.

Pepstop – Great spot for grab and go with health focus and whole food ingredients. Everything here is plant based, gluten free and organic. They also sell their own brand of various food stuff to cook with at home that are very popular and carried in many supermarkets around Sweden too.

Lunch and Dinner:

Hermans – Very well liked vegan buffet restaurant with a location that is to die for with views looking out over the water. Book a table to sit by a window or enjoy the outdoor seating in summer. Lots of yummy salads, bread and spreads as well as a few warm dishes each day as well as home baking style fika that can be bought separately. Definitely worth a visit!

Minh Mat – Delicious and interesting Vietnamese restaurant with a great vegan menu while not being a vegan restaurant.

Eatnam – For a quick bite to eat this Vietnamese restaurant chain offers summer rolls, pho, noodle salads and spring roll bowls.

Chou Chou – For some Swedish classics like meatballs and toast skagen, but make it vegan, this is the place. They also offer flatbread style pizzas with Stockeld vegan cheese, 3D printed vegan steak from Juicy Marbles and much more. The restaurant is set in a mall so you might want to request a seat by the window if you book a table, this will ensure you’re seated inside the restaurant as opposed to their cabanas in the mall.

Växthuset – For a spectacular night of delicious, vegan, seasonal, new Swedish cuisine you must visit this restaurant located under a not so charming bridge. It is located in close proximity to club Under Bron and their plant forward set menu is not to be missed.

Bistro Bananas – A very cosy spot with vegan options in Södermalm’s trendy SoFo area. Try their delicious pizza )note the gluten free base is not vegan friendly) and vegetable forward small plates.

Ice Cream:

StikkiNikki – Local ice cream bar chain with great vegan options. The location by Mariatorget is fully vegan and here you can go bananas and choose from a whole counter full of plant based flavours that change often.

For next time:

Farang– Supposed to have a lovely vegan set menu with Asian fusion flavours.

Lao Wai – Popular vegetarian Cantonese place with dishes that sound divine.

Places to Visit

Vasamuseet – Really cool museum with a rescued and partially restored war ship that sunk due to poor construction during the reign of Gustav Vasa.

Abba the Museum – If you love ABBA as much as the Swedes, or even half as much, you’ll enjoy experiencing the museum. Learn about the history of the band, enjoy interactive music and pertformance elements and check out some of their stage outfits among other things.

Moderna Museet– Modern art museum located on small island Skeppsholmen. Reach the museum with public transport ferry from Slussen kajen, it is a short but sweet ride.

Hallwylska Museet – View the private home, or palace, and eclectic collected items from a well to do family residing at the address in the early 1900s. There’s also a lovely courtyard with a restaurant and bar.

Fotografiska – Fantastic photographic gallery with several new exhibitions every year. Also visit their lovely bar and restaurant with beautiful views of the water. Unfortunately they keep raising the entry fee so it is a little bit of a splurge these days.

Gamla Stan – the old town which dates back to midieavel times with beautiful buildings, cobble stone, shops and eateries.

Mariaberget – Come up here for sunset and enjoy the panoramic view of the city centre across the water. A perfect place for a picnic if you can find a seat.

Arkivet – For a modern second hand shopping experience. There are three locations and during our visit the one located in Östermalm had the best raitings.
