As I have had stomach ache after stomach ache and various issues related to my digestive tract I found out that papaya is a great digestive aid. Amongst other things it aids in breaking down proteins for better absorption of nutrients. I have taken advantage of that fantastic property in this smoothie combination with hemp protein.

Papaya also has anti-inflammatory properties which help you sooth an upset stomach and heal the digestive tract. It can even help get rid of heart-burn as it has such amazing digestive properties.

In this recipe which is lovely for breakfast I add banana which is a great smoothie base. If you are using this recipe only to aid your stomach you should however avoid the banana and instead add more papaya as bananas are quite acidic which can be tough on the stomach.

This recipe also has baby spinach which I like to add to my fruit smoothies to get another nutritional profile. Different colour food contain different phytochemicals which have varying nutritional compounds. Therefore it is good to “eat the rainbow” as we have been told for a while by various health coaches.

Spinach is a good source of potassium and iron, vitamin K and B, as well as various antioxidants which support healthy eyes, skin and hair.
